Hello, my fellow Békéès. I’m so happy to have you here again. Today’s blog is probably one of the shortest ones I’ll write, but it carries one of the biggest pieces of my heart.
One of my favorite questions people ask me is: “How do you pronounce Békéè?”
Every single time someone asks, I smile. Because it gives me an excuse to tell the story behind the name.
So… How Do You Say Békéè?
Say it like this:
The middle syllable carries the emphasis. Don’t rush it. Let it breathe.
Just like we don’t rush the infusion, we don’t rush the name either.
A Name That Came Before the Brand
Long before there was a logo…
Long before there were amber bottles…
Long before herbs were drying in my garden…
There was a little girl whose mum looked at her hair and lovingly called her Onyinbékéè.
Every time I hear or say Békéè, I feel like she’s still cheering me on.
In my first founder’s letter, I wrote:
“Mum, I’ve clocked it now.”
I meant every word.
What was once spoken over me as love became something I could pour into other people’s lives.
That’s why Békéè has never felt like a random business name.
It feels like home.
Why We Kept the Accents
You may have noticed the accents in BÉKÉÈ.
They’re there on purpose.
The accents remind us that names deserve to be respected.
Too often, African names get shortened, simplified, or changed until they become easier for everyone else to say.
I wanted to do the opposite.
I wanted Békéè to keep its identity.
The accents aren’t decoration.
They’re part of the story.
More Than Haircare
Every bottle carries herbs.
Every bottle carries patience.
Every bottle carries weeks of waiting.
Now, every time you say Békéè, I hope you remember that you’re saying more than the name of a haircare brand.
You’re telling a story.
A mother’s praise.
A founder’s courage.
And a promise that beauty deserves intentional care.
So the next time someone asks you, “How do you pronounce it?”
Smile.
Take your time.
And say it with pride.
BÉKÉÈ.
From Onyinyechi, Founder of Békéè
Every bottle begins long before it reaches your hands.
It begins with herbs, patience, late nights, research, and the belief that healthy hair deserves intentional care.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
With love,
Onyinyechi
